Volunteers organize several activities on the topic
World Environment Day is June 5, but Nissan Institute volunteers believe the whole month warrants special awareness-raising activities. As a result, Volunteers of Value from São José dos Pinhais held a major event themed on environmental preservation for children at non-governmental organization Borda Viva.
From June 19 to 24, several activities were held, under the leadership of volunteers Carolina Garcia and Raphael Rosa.
From Monday to Thursday, the children attended talks on the subjects of “Waste and nature,” “Water, the Earth, the Sun, the Moon and plants,” “Bees and worms,” “Growing vegetables” and “Preparing land to grow crops.” On Friday, the group visited the Natural History Museum in Curitiba.
On Saturday, Volunteers of Value revamped the institution’s vegetable garden, in response to a request from the NGO. They helped prepare, clean and divide up the plots to optimize space and receive new plants.
The food harvested from this renovated garden will be used in the institution’s kitchen.
