Green School Project

Environmental education is a fundamental component of the development of citizenship and understanding of our rights and duties regarding the environment and our society as a whole. With this in mind, the Nissan Institute formed a partnership with the Mokiti Okada Foundation to work on this subject with children and adolescents at Jardim das Acácias Municipal School in Resende, Rio de Janeiro.
The project is currently in its pilot phase and the partner education institution was chosen because it already carries out environmental education activities and it is close to Nissan’s plant in Resende.
The environmental education methodology used is worked on from a theoretical and practical perspective in an interdisciplinary way, addressing important sustainability concepts through activities such as the building of an organic vegetable garden, agroecology techniques, composting, selective waste collection, healthy eating, rational water use and food security.
Although the Green School Project is focused on students, it also affects teachers and other school employees, who are prepared with the content to be taught to students, as well as the families of children and adolescents, who end up sharing the acquired knowledge.
The project’s mission is to prepare students to coexist harmoniously with the environment, both inside and outside of school, while developing personal, social and emotional skills that are essential to their physical and mental health, culminating in the formation of responsible citizens in an ecologically balanced society.
