Family farmers living in the Salto and Milanês Valley rural settlement in Barra Mansa, Rio de Janeiro,
face limitations when it comes to producing and selling their agricultural products, and this situation is aggravated by their low added value.
The main goal of this project is to train these farmers on ecologically friendly agricultural techniques. This will help them to overcome their obstacles, while helping to preserve the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will train 20 farmers on agroforestry and organic farming; restore vegetation around 20 springs on 20 properties; reduce carbon dioxide emissions by cutting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides; and hold environmental education classes and workshops at Bartolomeu Anacleto Municipal School, which is attended by children living in the settlement.
